چکیده

The concept of image fusion refers to a process that integrates image data recorded at different resolutions or by different sensors to obtain more information from a single and more complete image. In this study, wavelet image fusion method was applied to merge Landsat ETM Panchromatic (P) and Multispectral (MS) imagery to produce a new image which is spectrally and spatially enhanced. Three different regions which contain the diversity of the land cover and use categories in European side of Istanbul were selected as test areas to investigate the spatial and spectral performance of wavelets. The general objective of this study is to examine the added value of multi-sensor wavelet based image fusion in terms of spatial and spectral enhancement. To evaluate spatial enhancement, different objects having different geometries were selected and a visual comparison conducted between original and fused image. To analyze the spectral improvement, some transects including different land cover types were selected. Spectral profiles of these transects were plotted for fused and MS image and a comparison was performed between them. Moreover, the correlation between MS and fused data was calculated for these transects for each band to find out the degree of spectral enhancement. All results obtained for three test sites were presented as graphics and statistics.

Fusion of Thermal Infrared and Visible Images Based on Multi-scale Transform and Sparse Representation

Due to the differences between the visible and thermal infrared images, combination of these two types of images is essential for better understanding the characteristics of targets and the environment. Thermal infrared images have most importance to distinguish targets from the background based on the radiation differences, which work well in all-weather and day/night conditions also in land s...

A cloud-removal method based on image fusion using local indexes

For optical images, cloud and cloud shadow is always a problem during image processing and interpretation. Landsat ETM+ images, as a kind of optical images, are affected by cloud too. On the other hand, microwave images such as ALOS PALSAR images, which depend on microwave, is not affected by cloud, thus they are cloud-free. The aim of this study is to develop a semi-automatic method for removi...

Remote Sensing Image Fusion with a Multiresolution Directional-Oriented Image Transform Based on Gaussian Derivatives

A methodology for image fusion based on the Hermite transform is presented. First, we demonstrate fusion with multispectral images from the same satellite (Landsat 7 ETM+) with different spatial resolutions. In this case we show how the proposed method can help improve spatial resolution. In the second case we show fusion with different sensor images, namely SAR and multispectral Landsat 5 TM. ...

This paper discusses a design framework of the fusion of the multi-spectral image data for the analysis of satellite images. In recent years, as the availability of remote sensing imagery has increased, fusing images of different wavelength and different resolution have become a significant operation in remote sensing study. Image fusion process is designed to enhance the resolution of multi-sp...
